Acne Regimen
Summary: Use The Water Cure and do The Zone diet, avoiding trans fats, hydrogenated oils, sugars, and starches as well as possible. Clean the liver with a product like Now Silymarin or FutureBiotics Silymarin Plus. Use acne topical containing zinc if needed.
Acne is typically caused by bacteria producing infection and inflammation in the skin, feeding on toxins, metabolic wastes, and oils the liver is not properly processing. Teenagers suffer it worse than most since their livers are already overloaded processing the additional hormones of youth (just like women experience it worse when cyclic hormone levels are highest.) Hormonal involvement is not even necessary if liver function is severely compromised which is why it can occur in adults, too.
Add a poor diet of excess sugar, starch, and damaged oils and the liver cannot keep up. When it gets to this point, the body excretes toxins and wastes to the skin for disposal, providing food for the ubiquitous bacteria.
It makes little sense to just treat the bacteria directly, although it does help. It is a much better idea to clean the liver and provide proper nutrients for it to function well so it can remove the food source for the bacteria, as well as yield the many other benefits of a clean liver. The Zone diet and other diets where adequate protein and oils are eaten generally provide for the best liver function. Avoid damaged oils like hydrogenated oils in processed foods and margarine and trans fats in fried foods. Silymarin supplements like those mentioned above help remove toxic deposits from the liver, also aiding its function. Although the FutureBiotic Silymarin Plus is an all-around better liver cleanser, Now Silymarin may work better for acne since it is a good liver cleanser and antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory.
When toxins are removed from the liver, it is important that they are expelled from the body quickly before they are reabsorbed. For this, the Water Cure is important, as is eating plenty of non-starchy vegetables. Using magnesium or, better yet, a 1:1 ratio calcium magnesium supplement like Solaray Cal-Mag Citrate at night will also help as will vitamin C. Additional measures beyond those detailed above include using a good multivitamin. A full Liver Cleanse regimen may be followed if liver's function is suspected to be severely compromised.
This regimen should yield noticeable results in two weeks. If quicker results are desired, consider using a topical containing zinc. There are a few available in health food stores. Look for one with no petrochemicals. A good one can be made oneself by mixing two ounces each vodka and aloe juice (or use 4 oz colloidal silver instead), then adding 1/4 tsp zinc sulfate. It may help to add a drop or two of tea tree oil. A much cheaper (free) topical is discussed below.
There is some evidence that a lack of vitamin E and/or A may exacerbate acne problems. The best way to get these are in a full spectrum multivitamin that contains mixed tocopherols form of vitamin E along with sufficient vitamin A, as well as ensure 100% RDA of magnesium (in a multimineral) long term. See the General Maintenance Regimen for more information.
There are also reports from a number of people that treating demodex mites on the skin is effective in many cases. For this, internal antiparasitic supplements are used. It will take a week or so for the concentration to build up in the skin to combat the problem. The best single supplements for this purpose are probably Eclectic Institute Para-Fight (formally known as Intestinal Support) (taken at double recommended serving size) or Health Force Scram. See the Antiparasitic Regimen for more information.
Here's a free and effective method to clear up acne that was posted on a rife listserver, although more than a few people may find it difficult to follow. --------------------- Forgive me for how this sounds, but I have SEEN terrible acne cleared up. Even easier than Rife... I'll try to explain gently. I saw a friend of mine (who is also a bodyworker) after a year, and her complexion was perfect. I'd known her for about 10 years (She was about 40 at this time) and her acne had always been her most distinguishing feature. I couldn't help but comment. She said that she had been to a seminar, and this elderly lady came up to her and commented on how bad her complexion was. (Elderly ladies are allowed to "cut right to the chase".) The lady said that she too had had such a problem, but it was now (Obviously) better. She told my friend to take a piece of cotton, (or whatever) and wet it well with the FIRST part of her first urine of the day. Then to wipe it on her skin, and let it stay for a couple of minutes, until it dries...Then rinse it off. Even cheaper than stridex, but I would suspect such usage might require an overhaul of some personal attitudes. I've seen it work. I understand that one's OWN urine is not toxic to oneself. I guess it depends on how badly they want to get rid of it, if they are willing to try it. CD |
