GERD Regimen

Summary: Follow The Water Cure, Eat Right 4 Your Type, and ensure adequate mineral consumption by using a Multimineral. Avoid all tomato, orange, and wheat products as well as possible.See the regimen on Balancing pH and follow its instructions to eat two servings of fruits or vegetables for every serving of protein and grain.

For someone interested enough in health to be reading this article, it is likely not necessary to state that it is probably important to avoid unhealthy foods such as soft drinks with their high acid content, both those that contain sugar which affects the pancreas, liver, and other digestive organs, as well as ones that contain chemicals like aspartame which may damage the pancreas directly.

In some cases, it may be necessary to do a Liver Cleanse. If the liver is not producing sufficient digestive fluids or enzymes, incomplete digestion can lead to GERD. The liver may not have the necessary nutrients to produce them - B vitamins and minerals, especially magnesium. Magnesium intake is ensured by using a multimineral, but it may be necessary to also use a multivitamin to ensure sufficient B vitamin intake. A multivitamin and multimineral will help ensure that the pancreas also has sufficient nutrients to produce its compliment of enzymes.

High fat foods can cause episodes of acid reflux since the liver and gallbladder dump a lot of acid into the digestive tract to help process them. This appears to mostly be a problem with damaged oils such as hydrogenated ones (found in many processed foods and margarine) and trans fats (found in foods fried in most vegetable oils). Avoid these bad oils.

Note that people with blood type O are, by far, the most likely to suffer GERD and other problems of excessive digestive acid. They tend to have overactive digestive systems and produce a lot of acid. A blood type O following a low protein diet increases the chances of having excessive acid. See Eat Right 4 Your Type for more information.

If short term relief is needed, the best single product to fight symptoms is Ecological Formula's Tri-Salt Bicarbonates, which contains carbonates and bicarbonates of calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It is a well-balanced mineral product as opposed to normal calcium-based antacids which contain only calcium carbonate, and usually along with questionable ingredients like dyes, artificial sweeteners, petrochemicals, and toxic metals. Tri-Salts is a pollutant-free product of reagent quality, reasonable in cost, and has very little taste. It is not absorbed well by those with normal stomach acid and it can cause too much alkalinity in the digestive and urinary tract, but for those who eat imprudently, can be helpful for short term use. Tri-Salts can also be added in small amounts (1/4 to 1/2 tsp per gallon of water) to boost mineral content of water that is too soft to create alkaline mineral water for pennies a gallon.

However, it is generally best in the long term, even for blood type O's, to use a mineral product that is well absorbed so there are plenty of minerals available systemically to fight the problem when needed. Although citrates are well-absorbed, they are likely not the best for type O's fighting this problem. In this case an amino acid or MCHA chelated product like Enzymatic Therapy Kreb's Cycle Chelates or Now Full Spectrum Minerals are better. If one is committed to eating imprudently and not avoiding tomatoes, wheat, and bad oils, the Tri-Salts or Now Calcium Magnesium is a better choice. The Now product is not a powder but is also very inexpensive and the serving size to get 1000mg of calcium in carbonate form and 500mg of magnesium oxide is only two tablets. For relief all day long, use one with breakfast and/or lunch and two before bed).

Since the liver is most active from 2:00 to 3:00 AM, this is often when problems occur. This is why it is usually best to take the majority of a mineral supplement at night or just before bed. When the liver is most active is also the time when minerals are best absorbed, even alkaline ones. Minerals like calcium and magnesium are also relaxing and aid sleep, which provides another reason to use them at night.

If a GERD problem is not quickly solved using adequate minerals, vitamins, water, and eating right, it could be a bacteria like H. pylori causing the problem. This can easily be diagnosed by an MD. Using colloidal silver in adequate amounts will usually provide results in another week or two. Other measures that may help include additional antiseptics like olive leaf extract and fennel seeds.

Fennel seeds are an excellent supplement to fight acid reflux and GERD. They are rich in minerals including magnesium and are very alkaline. Besides neutralizing acid directly, they also help against pathogens which can make the problem chronic, including h. pylori. Slippery elm is another good herb to fight excessive digestive acid. For severe problems, it can be used as a food, mixing a couple tablespoons of the bulk powder in with hot water and making a gruel similar to oatmeal to eat as a meal.

Aloe juice is yet another excellent supplement to fight GERD and acid reflux. George's Aloe Juice is one of the few that does not contain a preservative acid,

If a person is blood type A and has the unusual problem (for them) of chronic digestive acidity or GERD, this is usually an indication of too little digestive acids. If food is not digested quickly enough, it putrifies in the stomach, causes "eruptions", and the symptoms are identical to GERD. If this is the case, clean the liver and ensure adequate nutrition to stimulate production of sufficient acids and enzymes. One way to tell if this is the problem is to use a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (not white) when the problem is occurring. If it helps the problem instead of makes it worse, this is the case.

and is fractionally distilled for purity, so is the most highly recommended. Besides its direct effect on acidity, it heals the stomach and esophagus from damage that may have resulted from excessive acidity if the problem was chronic. For George's, a good way to use it is to add an ounce or two to each glass of water that is drunk in the Water Cure, or drink 4 to 6 ounces before bed. It is almost tasteless.

Adele Davis, an complementary health advocate from the 1960 and 1970's, stated that if there was a problem with excessive digestive acid, then one needs to consume more protein to give it something to digest. She recommended milk as the best food, since it also contains a good bit of calcium. These days, of course, it is only recommended that organic milk be used if this method is used. This method is still useful and works for many people.

A surefire way for many blood type O's to get a case of acid indigestion is to eat a lot of tomatoes and a grain like corn or wheat, with some damaged oils. Add to this another nightshade vegetable like peppers in addition to the tomatoes, then alcohol, especially with orange (like a screwdriver or margarita), or high in tannins (like red wine) and the condition is virtually assured. Does this sound like a good Mexican meal, with chips fried in a damaged oil, dipped in a salsa made with tomatoes and peppers, and a margarita with plenty of alcohol, one of them orange-based (triple sec)? Or an Italian meal with wheat pasta and rolls (slathered in a damaged oil like margarine instead of olive oil or butter if it's a crappy Italian restaurant), tomatoes in the sauce, and red wine?
